Naomi will celebrate her 80th birthday on January 10, 2018. She is the daughter of Matthew Elmer Heninger and Zelda Bird. She was born in Mendon Utah, the youngest of eight children; five girls, three boys.
Naomi spent her early years in Mendon helping her father with the family garden and tending the farm animals and helping her mother with genealogical research. Naomi participated several times in the Mendon May Day celebration dancing the Maypole dance for the community. Her family moved to Logan in 1950. She graduated from Logan High School in 1956.
She worked at the concession counter at the Utah Theater in Logan as well as the local drug store to help pay her way through college. Naomi attended Utah State University, receiving a Bachelor of Science on June 4, 1960. She also received her Elementary School Teaching Certificate in 1960. Naomi then moved to Salt Lake City to teach at Matheson Elementary at Rose Park.
Naomi met Lonell Hinck Burton while attending the university and the two were married June 15, 1962, in the Logan LDS Temple. The couple moved to Brigham City where she continued to teach elementary school at Foothill School until the couple began their family. The family moved to Ogden in 1967 where they continue to live.
Naomi and Lonell have five children: DeAnn Layman, Kathy Chatelain, Annette (Nolan) Pendleton, Christine (Travis) Bates, and Alan (Tiffannie) Burton; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Naomi has helped in the raising of several nieces and nephews and several of her grandchildren and has very special relationships with each of them. Naomi is a member of the LDS Church and has held many positions in the Primary.
Naomi is a beautiful seamstress and made many of her own clothes when she was young, as well as her children's clothes when they were young. She loves flowers and flower gardens and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
